Charles Mak (BAIAC Young Practitioner Initiative Lead)
Charles HW Mak – BAIAC Young Practitioner Lead Charles Ho Wang Mak is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Glasgow, a Fellow of the Centre for Chinese and Comparative Law at the City University of Hong Kong, an Honorary Fellow of the Asian Institute of International Financial Law at the University of Hong Kong, a Research Affiliate at SovereigNET at The Fletcher School, Tufts University, and a Research Associate at China, Law and Development Project at the University of Oxford. His research concentrates on sovereign debt restructuring and dispute resolution. Charles has studied law at the University of Sussex in England (LL.B. (Hons.)), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (LL.M. in International Economic Law), and the City University of Hong Kong (LL.M.Arb.D.R.(with Credit)). At present he is completing his PhD in international law at the University of Glasgow. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (FHKIArb), the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand (FAMINZ (Arb/Med)), the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (FAIADR), and the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland (FRAS). He earned accreditation as a tribunal secretary at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. In 2019, he was admitted as the first member of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration Tribunal Secretary Panel from both Hong Kong and Mainland China. He is available to be appointed as a tribunal secretary for international arbitrations.

Godwin Tan Godwin is a dual-qualified lawyer (English solicitor and New York attorney) at Allen & Overy, London. His areas of practice include investment treaty arbitration, international commercial arbitration, business and human rights, and public international law. He has represented and/or advised States, companies and international organisations in multiple jurisdictions. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) from University College London and a Master of Law (First Class in all subjects) from the University of Cambridge. He has delivered lectures and led seminars on arbitration at various universities, including the University of Cambridge, King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, and the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He has also published peer-reviewed journal articles and a book chapter on developments in arbitration. In addition to his role at the Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre, he founded and is currently a committee member of Allen & Overy’s Society of East Asian Lawyers.

Andreas Wehowsky Andreas is a Swiss lawyer with the leading Swiss law firm Schellenberg Wittmer, focussing on international arbitration and litigation. He is currently also finishing his PhD thesis on expedited and summary proceedings in international arbitration at the University of Zurich. He holds LL.M. degrees from the University of Hong Kong (with a focus on international arbitration) and the University of Zurich. He previously also gained experience at HKIAC and regularly publishes in his areas of interest, with a focus on international arbitration in Southeast Asia Prior to joining Schellenberg Wittmer, he has worked for the international arbitration and litigation teams of magic circle law firms in Switzerland and Singapore. In this capacity, he has already been involved in a wide range of disputes such as construction, post-m&a, supply and licensing agreements as well as court enforcement proceedings. He has worked inter alia under the laws of Switzerland, Singapore, the PRC and Germany and was involved in proceedings governed by the DIS, HKIAC, ICC, SCAI and SIAC Arbitration Rules.
